   Duke of Gloucester
The Duke of Gloucester has asked me to thank you most sincerely for your hospitality and organisation on the occasion of His Royal Highness opening the Jewish Military Museum on Monday 16th July 2007.

It was a most enjoyable day and clearly a large number of people worked very hard indeed both in view and behind the scenes.

The Duke of Gloucester was most grateful for the splendid gift of a framed AJEX plaque.

His Royal Highness would wish to pass on his thanks and appreciation to all those involved for such an informative and enjoyable visit.

The Duke of Gloucester would like me to convey his very warmest regards to you and everyone at AJEX and he wishes the very best of luck for the future to you all.

Yours sincerely,

Ben Sempala-Nteg

   Siegfried Sassoon, MC
On our way back from a holiday in Devon in late July, my wife Jane and I made a detour to the beautiful village of Mells, near Radstock in Somerset. In the peaceful churchyard we sought out the grave of the famous and great Jewish World War One poet, Siegfried Sassoon. Simply cared with just his name and dates of birth and death and a small cross at the tope, his headstone was almost indistinguishable from others except for the four Commonwealth War Graves Commission wooden crosses laid reverently in a row against its base, with the blood red poppies bright against the grey stone of his simple tomb. We carefully placed our Star of David Commission peg next to the crosses with our label and its AJEX logo, remembering his courage as a warrior in that terrible war and his literary and poetic genius. Apparently, a steady stream of Sassoon enthusiasts make their pilgrimage to Mells all year round to pay tribute to him; this time round they will see the Magen David left by us on behalf of AJEX.

   Dear Dr Phelops
Jewish Veterans' Day: 18th July 10th September 2007

On behalf of all JFS teaching staff and Year 9 students we would like to thank the members of AJEX, yet again, for their participation in our Jewish Veterans' Day on Wednesday 18 July. The educational and personal impact the day had on our students' perception of World War Two has been very precious. They now have an awareness of the important contribution the Jewish community made to fighting the war against Nazi Germany, Italy and Japan. This provides a significant balance with the picture they have of Jews as victims of the Nazis.

Once again, we were very impressed with the delightful manner in which AJEX members engaged a range of students of varying abilities.

We look forward to working with you and AJEX next year and would be very grateful if you could pass on a copy of this letter expressing our personal thanks to every Veteran who visited JFS last Wednesday.

Yours sincerely,

DAME RUTH ROBINS DBE

   Dear Sir
I am currently doing research on one of my cousins who fought with the British Forces in WW2 for 7 years after joining them in Palestine in 1939.

I know he was awarded a number of medals but I do not know which ones. Is there any way I can retrace his career?

Here is his name: Armin Werner Richheimer (aka Arie Rigby)
Born in:               Schweinfurt, Germany (on September 11th 1920)

He fought with the R.N. in Greece, Alexandria, Lybia and took part in the liberation of Sicily.

Thank you very much for any help.
