| Notice Board - Northen Provincial Conference |

The Conference
On Thursday 31st May 2007 the National Chairman accompanied by nine Officers of the Association travelled to Newcastle to take part in the Conference.
It was attended by branches as far south as Birmingham and included Leeds, Hull, Manchester, Liverpool and Southport. The chairmen of Divisions each made a report, and answered questions from the floor. Despite the passing of the years the delegates showed undiminished enthusiasm for the future, and many important issues were discussed. |

Issues Discussed
The National Chairman informed the conference that the format for the forthcoming National Parade and Rally in November would continue as in the previous year. Due partly to extra efforts from branches and the clement weather participation had actually increased, although the inclusion of youth groups such as the Scouts, Guides, Bnai Akiva, Maccabi and others came in for some criticism. A scheme was inaugurated whereby members from the provinces who were deterred from attending the Parade because of cost were to be offered overnight accommodation in London member's houses.
Branches showed considerable interest in obtaining the use of the Mobile Exhibition for display in Communal Halls and public areas, and details will be sent to branches on how this can be achieved.
Jeffrey Rossman President of Newcastle branch spoke of the strength of the branch due to the success in recruiting ex-national service men onto the committee and urged other branches to redouble their efforts in doing the same.
The distribution of funds specifically designated for "Ex-service housing" was explained to the conference by the National Chairman and it was stated that many branches have now applied to be included in the project. (For further information contact the General Secretary at headoffice@ajex.org.uk)
The full day conference which was concluded at 4:30pm was a great success at every level, and has helped to strengthen the bonds between the organisation. All members returned to their branches refreshed and invigorated.
During the proceedings the National Chairman received a cheque for AJEX funds from Newcastle branch, and also presented cheques to Birmingham and Manchester branches as part of the Ex-service housing project. |
