AJEX was delighted to send a group of veterans to Buckingham Palace this week for a Garden Party organised by The Not Forgotten organisation. The Duchess of Edinburgh was in attendance.
Miriam Sandler who is 100 and served in the Land Army was part of the group with her son Melvyn. Commenting he said; "My mother Miriam Sandler who turned 100 in September 2022, attended the Garden Party held at Buckingham Palace. It was a first for our family and Mum is the first know centurion in our family. The highlight of mum’s day came when The Duchess of Edinburgh came to speak to her where she was seated in the WWII veterans area." Read more here.
Alan Tyler aged 99 who served in the Royal Navy in the Second World War and beyond was honoured to be present along with his son,Jon Tyler. Jon also Served in HM Armed Forces between 1974 and 1989. Jon wrote to AJEX following the Garden Party saying: "My Dad was treated as a special guest and was lined up to talk to the Duchess, who was delightful. I got my Dad to meet a serving senior female RN Officer who had a long chat with him as did a number of other military personnel who seemed in awe of him.’" Also joining at this event was Norman Grant. Norman served in the Merchant Navy and is a staunch AJEX Member of Brighton branch along with his grandaughter.
