Martin Sugarman is an Archivist of AJEX JMA.

Martin has authored five books on the Jewish contribution to the British war effort in WW2. Over the past 25 years, with a combination of determination and thorough research Martin has made it his mission to ensure that any Jewish war grave errors that are discovered or reported are corrected.

Isidore Newman Memorial - Durham

10th May 2023

A first memorial to Jewish SOE agent in WW2, Capt. Isidore Nemwan, MBE, Cr de Gu. who, though born in Leeds, was brought up and went to school in Durham, has been installed at the address where he and his family lived before the War.

AJEX Archivist Martin Sugarman has organised a new plaque. This plaque honours Jack Nissenthal and has been put up on Chance Street in Bethnal Green. The plaque was financed by Jerry Klinger of JASHP

Bethnal Green Tube Disaster 80th anniversary

Stan Kaye and Martin Sugarman represented AJEX JMA at the ceremony on March 3rd, the 80th anniversary, at St John on Bethnal Green church, attended by the Duke of Gloucester and the Bishop of Stepney, Rt Rev Dr Joanne Woolway.

Plaque to Jewish war heroine after more than 75 years

A plaque has been installed to recall the life of Jewish war heroine Vera May Atkins Rosenberg at the block of flats in west London where she lived during WW2. Born in June 1908 to a distinguished Jewish family in Romania, they were eventually forced to leave due to the intense ant-Semitism and made their way to the UK. Vera was daughter of Max and Zefra Hilda nee Etkins, and later took the similar surname of her mother, changed to Atkins.
