Ruth Brook Klauber: Aged 101, Ruth reflects on her journey from fleeing Nazi Germany as a child to serving in Britain’s Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during WWII. Rejecting traditional roles, she trained as a flight mechanic and proudly contributed to the war effort. In this heartfelt episode, Ruth recounts her family’s escape, her integration into British society and her post-war life.
AJEX also presents her live with the UK War and Defence Medals in recognition of her service. A younger AJEX member, Chloe, joins to ask Ruth questions, bridging generations through Remembrance.
Henny Franks: A 101-year-old WWII veteran and Kindertransport refugee. Henny shares her childhood journey from escaping Nazi Germany to serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service in Britain, her life after the war, including reuniting with her mother in Brussels.
Jamie & Amba Cooper-Morris: Jamie, a Royal Engineers veteran and his wife Amba discuss their military careers, mental health challenges and the discovery of Jamie's Jewish heritage, emphasising their dedication to public service. This is a story of the British Army in its busiest decades, as well as a family dedicated to public service.
Barrie Davey (Pts 1 and 2): A Chelsea Pensioner, Barrie recounts his wartime childhood and subsequent military service, offering insights into post-war Britain and his personal connection to Judaism. Barrie also reveals what life is like at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Daniel Berke: Author of Captured Behind Japanese Lines, Daniel discusses his Grandfather's experiences as a Wingate Chindit and Japanese Prisoner of War, and his own efforts to uncover this aspect of WWII history, on the ground in Burma, modern-day Myanmar.
