The event brought together volunteers involved in many different areas of AJEX’s work, from supporting the annual Parade and escorting veterans to events, to helping with the military museum archive and assisting the team at HQ.
Guests were honoured to hear from Robert Voss CBE CStJ, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, who has served in the role since his appointment by Queen Elizabeth II in August 2017. As the King’s personal representative in Hertfordshire, Robert spoke about the significance of service and the vital role volunteers play in strengthening communities. He reflected on how meaningful volunteering can be, both for those who give their time and for those who benefit from their support.
Robert also spoke about his relationship with His Majesty The King and the role of the Lord-Lieutenant in representing the monarch across the county. He shared that The King continues to send his support to the Jewish community at this difficult time, a message that was deeply appreciated by those in attendance. Robert also spoke warmly about his own admiration and passion for AJEX and its important work in honouring service, Remembrance and community.
The brunch also provided an opportunity for volunteers to hear from Jon Tyler, the new AJEX Chair. Jon shared stories from his military life, his family connections to AJEX and his personal commitment to honouring the legacy of Jewish servicemen and women. He spoke warmly about the importance of AJEX’s mission and his enthusiasm for the future, including the many events and activities ahead.
The event was a heartfelt celebration of the volunteers who help keep AJEX’s work alive. Their contribution is central to ensuring that veterans are supported, stories are preserved and the legacy of Jewish military service continues to be remembered and shared with future generations.
