During WW11 Miriam was conscripted into The Land Army and remembers picking cabbages in the cold of mid-winter in Wales. It is only recently that the contribution of women such as Mum has been officially recognised by the award of a medal. There was a picture of Mum displayed for many years in the Jewish Museum in Manchester from where she hails.
The highlight of mum’s day came when The Duchess of Edinburgh came to speak to her where she was seated in the WWII veterans area. The Duchess came down to mum's level, squatting on her knees and spent several minutes talking to her, thanking her for her wartime contribution, and saying that she had seen the memorial to Land Army girls at the National Memorial Arboretum.
The family would like to thank everyone who made this such a special day for Mum.
